Why i am standing

Walt Cavendish for Waikato Regional Council

A Farmer Who’ll Fight for Rural Waikato

We need a strong voice for Waihou — not a seat-warmer, not a rubber stamp. A fighter for rural Waikato.

I’m Walt Cavendish — a dairy farmer from Richmond Downs, right here in the heart of the Waihou constituency. I know what it means to work the land, raise a family, and hold a community together. Early mornings, long days, and no room for excuses — that’s the life I live, and the life that keeps this region strong.

But somewhere along the way, the rural voice stopped being heard. Too many decisions are made by people who don’t understand how this place works — who’ve forgotten that it’s our farmers, our small towns, and our families who keep this region moving.

That’s why I’m standing for the Waikato Regional Council. I’m not a career politician. I’m a practical bloke who’s had enough of red tape, rising costs, and rules made behind closed doors. I will oppose co-governance and stand firmly for equal democratic rights for all ratepayers — one person, one vote, no special treatment. Everyone deserves the same say, no matter their background.

I’m here to say what others wont, to provide common sense, and strong rural advocacy to the council table — not to go along with the status quo, but to change it.

This is where I farm. This is where I raise my family and this is my home.

I’ll stand up for it with everything I’ve got.
